Somebody’s going to emergency, somebody’s going to jail

Ha, caught your attention, didn’t it?

This is a line from an old Eagles’ song, ‘New York Minute’, and is also the title of an episode of ‘The West Wing’.

Have I told you I am a BIG fan of ‘The West Wing’? For those of you who have not watched it before, the series is about the daily running of the White House, and it features the public and private lives of the President (played by a cool Martin Sheen) and his staff. The issues the show deals with, and the clever dialogue are enough to keep anyone glued to the show, but on top of that, it is the brilliant acting of the characters that really adds the icing. Allison Janney as the White House Press Secretary is a sparkling gem of an actress, and Rob Lowe is just incredibly suave in his role as Deputy White House Communications Director.

What I like about this series is the way it is conceptualized by Aaron Sorkin. The show moves fluidly from the very SERIOUS (the drug trade in South America, the India-Pakistan conflict, terrorism) to the very SILLY (Deputy White House Chief of Staff getting drunk the night before, and having no fresh clothes to wear for an important meeting the morning after, the Press Secretary fretting over having dental root canal treatment); from the very PUBLIC (the hustle and bustle of Congressional election campaigns) to the very PRIVATE (heated bedroom quarrels between the President and the First Lady)

I’ve got the entire Season 1 and 2 DVDs, want to watch? (or buy Seasons 3 and 4 for me? =)
