“In my end is my beginning.”
This is the motto that Mary Queen of Scots embroidered on her cloth of estate whilst held as a prisoner of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, in England. It is also the theme that ran through the whole of Mary’s short and tragic life…it is said that Mary probably drew inspiration from the emblem that was adopted by her grandfather-in-law, Francis I, which was a salamander. That creature that self-ignites at the end of its life, and then rises up from the ashes reborn.
Today marks an end of a chapter in my life, but in this end is my beginning.
