So which comic book characters were REALLY behind the events of 9 Aug 1965?

I watched Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon yesterday, and while I was pleasantly surprised that it was better than Transformers 2 (marginally), what tickled me more was the fact that they used the 1969 Moon Landing and the 1986 Chernobyl Incident as the settings for the storyline! Reminded me of X-Men: First Class which employed the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis as the backdrop for the plot. So that got me thinking: with all these recent re-invention of historical events in movies, how about Singapore’s history? Imagine for a bit – perhaps the real reason for Lee Kuan Yew’s tears on 9 Aug 1965 was because of some comic or cartoon characters? Like maybe it was due to a showdown between Smurfs and Gargamel; or a final battle of He-Men and Skeletor? And what about the landing of Raffles on the shores of Singapore on 28 Jan 1819? Was it really because of finding a new British port in the archipelago to counter growing Dutch influence, or was he on a quest to find a long-lost artifact that gives Care Bears their power? And Sang Nila Utama? Did he really see a lion on Temasek Island? Or was it some unspeakable beast with superpowers?

Time to rewrite our history books…or at least attempt to make a movie based on secret aspects of Singaporean history!

Can you spot the hidden comic book characters in this scene?
